Our Teaching Philosophy and What Guides Us
Our Teaching Philosophy and
What Guides Us
At Seedlings, we believe respectful relationships are the foundation of every child’s learning journey. Whānau are our partners, and together we create belonging, trust and shared responsibility.
Guided by Te Whāriki & Reggio
Our teaching is guided by Te Whāriki, New Zealand’s early childhood curriculum, and influenced by the Reggio Emilia approach. We see tamariki as capable and curious, free to explore, make choices and follow their own learning pathways.
Learning Through Play
Play is at the heart of our philosophy. It encourages tamariki to test ideas, take risks, collaborate and build confidence. Our kaiako act as co-researchers, nurturing creativity, problem solving and a lifelong love of learning.
Living Our Values
We weave the principles of kaitiakitanga, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, ako and sustainability into everyday practice. We honour culture, welcome every whānau, build strong relationships and care for the environment and future generations.

Our Story & Directors
Our Story & Directors
Seedlings Early Learning Centre was established in 2013 and is proudly owned and operated by two families passionate about working with young children and their whānau. From our two Halswell locations, Longhurst and Knights Stream Park, we provide quality early childhood care and education for tamariki aged three months to six years.
Seedlings is co-managed by owner/operators Cindy Paul and
Kylie Morgan, both highly experienced and qualified early childhood educators. Cindy and Kylie are not only leaders within the sector but also parents themselves, bringing professional expertise and personal insight to the centre.
Throughout their careers, both have embraced continuous professional development, reflecting their commitment to growth mindsets and lifelong learning. They are passionate about supporting and empowering teachers, ensuring kaiako feel valued and inspired in their roles. Above all, Cindy and Kylie are dedicated to providing children with a loving, nurturing and positive early learning experience. They welcome enquiries, value whānau feedback, and are always available to connect with families as part of the Seedlings community.
